The Effects of Advertisements on the Lives of People

Advertisements are simply a way of promoting any object, job or person. However, these advertisements have a severe impact on the lives of the viewers. Advertisements or 'Ads' severely ill-effect the lives of children. Advertisements for companies like MacDonalds, Dominos, Oreo and Mentos showcase their food items to improve the lives of the viewers. The tagline for Mentos in India is "Dimag Ki Baati Jala De" which means that once a person eats Mentos he can think and understand better, which is obviously false, but children get attracted to this and end up buying the product so that they can get help in memorising and thinking.  Meanwhile, companies like Oreo have another fascinating way of attracting their customers. They start new challenges, tricks and other fun activities that help them to attract customers. Oreo’s strategy is the “Lick Dunk Bite” challenge. This challenge showcases how a young boy or girl, does not share his or her biscuit with their father or mother and instead lick the cream of the biscuit, dip it in milk and bite the biscuit without sharing it. This promotes a selfish attitude among the young generation. Another company that has advertisements promoting harm is Pizza Hut. An advertisement of this company showed a famous internet-celebrity Bhuvan Bam performing dangerous stunts like climbing vehicles to reach Pizza Hut’s restraint and order pizza. Another company that shows these kinds of ads are cold drink companies like Mountain Dew and Thumbs Up, where a famous celebrity jumps from buildings, mountains and waterfalls to get their soda drinks. This promotes harm and viewers get attracted to it. Till now I only talked about advertisements related to food companies, another form of advertisement is where companies promote their shows. For example, advertisements for a famous show named “Tom and Jerry” show Jerry the Mouse performing dangerous stunts like hitting himself with a hammer, burning alive, dying, falling from a height or freezing Tom the Cat. This promotes self-harm and viewers usually get attracted to this and consider it to be normal. We have to fight this issue and stop companies from showing and promoting these kinds of advertisements.
